Top Hit Films of 2013

Top Bollywood Hit Films of 2013

2013 is all set to end soon and the year proved to be extremely prolific for the bollywood industry. 2013 saw many films making huge business at the box-office and a few films even managed to cross the much-hyped 100cr club, and reached the brand new 200cr club.

We at 4bollywoodlovers.com list down the top 5 hits film of 2013 according to their business made at the Box-office:

1: ‘Dhoom 3’

Dhoom 3 Top Bollywood Hit Films of 2013

Cast: Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Katrina Kaif

The year finally ended with a ‘Dhoom’. ‘D3’ has collected Rs. 233cr in just a few days and the film is still running strong in the theatres. This flick will surely break the box-office records and that’s why it has reached the No. 1 position in our list.

What was Good: ‘Dhoom 3’ is the most stylish thriller made till date. Aamir Khan’s acting was mind-blowing and Kat’s Kamli act impressed the audiences.

What was Bad: The length of the movie is big and even the music was not that impressive. Screenplay could have been better as it fails to keep us hooked. Even the chasing sequences are too long.

2: ‘Krrish 3’

Krrish 3 Top Bollywood Hit Films of 2013

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Vivek Oberoi, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut

Slammed by critics but still ‘Krrish 3’ managed to collect Rs. 240cr and has reached to the second position in our list.

What was Good: Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut’s acting was superb in the film. Both the actors were surely one reason that the movie did wonders at the box-office. The VFX in the films were amazing.

What was Bad: Rakesh Roshan failed to impress the audiences with his direction. Even the songs were disappointing and picturization of the songs were pale.

3: ‘Chennai Express’

Chennai Express Top Bollywood Hit Films of 2013

Cast: Deepika Padukone, Shahrukh Khan

At number three, we have Rohit Shattey’s ‘Chennai Express’ which collected Rs. 226cr at the box-office.

What was Good: ‘CE’ was a full-on Rohit Shetty style action comedy. Deepika Padukone’s South Indian accent and SRK’s innocent acting impressed everyone very well.

What was Bad: Storyline of the film and the screenplay could have been better. Few things looked unrealistic and even the music was not that great.

4: ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani Top Bollywood Hit Films of 2013

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechlin

At the fourth position we have ‘YJHD’ with the collection of Rs. 179cr.

What was Good: ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ had a different kind of freshness in the direction of Ayan Mukherji. The film saw ex-flames Ranbir & Deepika coming together onscreen after their break-up and their chemistry worked wonders for the film.

What was Bad: ‘YJHD’ had nothing new when it comes to story. It looked a mixture of many other romantic films.

5: ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’

Ram Leela Top Bollywood Hit Films of 2013

Cast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone

With collecting Rs. 113cr, ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ has landed up to the fifth position in our list.

What was Good: ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ had a lot of positive aspects working in its favour. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s story telling style, music of the film, performances of the actors and the aesthetic element of the film were some of the biggest positive factors of the film.

What was Bad: The film was just stretched on one point with no sensible backdrop and the length could have been cut short. The love story which was told to be passionate had no logical romance except for kissing.

Dhoom 3 broke the record set by the Pakistani film Waar

The movie even broke the record set by the Pakistani film Waar last month for the highest box office collections on the first day of release

Dhoom 3 broke the record set by the Pakistani film Waar

In the country’s largest city of Karachi, Dhoom:3′s box office receipts from 56 screens on its opening day was around Rs 20 million. Bollywood icon Aamir Khan’s latest release Dhoom:3 has broken box office records in Pakistan in the first week of its release, with multiplexes running five shows a day to capitalise on interest in the film.

“Waar grossed Rs 11.4 million on its opening day but Dhoom:3 has surpassed that by a large margin,” said Nadeem Mandviwalla, one of Pakistan’s leading exhibitors and distributors. Dhoom:3 was released at a time when the screening of Indian movies has come under a cloud because of an order from the Lahore High Court barring the exhibition of “illegally” imported films.

The Dhoom:3 craze in Karachi has reached such heights that multiplexes are running the film on all their screens and having five shows a day on one screen – something unheard of in the Pakistani film industry. “There is no doubt that Dhoom:3 has been a massive hit and the reason for this is clearly Aamir Khan and the pre-release publicity for the film,” Mandviwalla said.

Abdul Haq, manager of Capri Cinema here, said that while Waar was released during the Eid holidays, Dhoom:3 was released on a normal weekend. “There is great interest in the film and we are getting audiences of all ages and sexes,” Haq said.

Mandviwalla said, “Dhoom:3′s success comes at the end of a year during which Pakistani films have done well at the box office and have also been received well. “It will be interesting to see by what margin Dhoom breaks the record for the highest box office collections in Pakistan, which is held by Chennai Express with grosses of Rs 100 million.” Mandviwalla said 2013 was a great year for exhibitors and distributors and the success of Chambeli, Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Waar, Chennai Express and Dhoom:3 showed that Pakistani and Indian films could co-exist on screens.

The movie even broke the record set by the Pakistani film Waar last month for the highest box office collections on the first day of release.

Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, who have been constant in the cast since Dhoom”, reprised their roles of cop and sidekick, respectively. Katrina Kaif added to the glamour quotient of the film.

Dhoom 3 creates mass excitement in Pakistan

Dhoom 3 creates mass excitement in Pakistan

Earlier this month the Pakistani government had passed a ruling banning the release of any Indian film from releasing within the country. However, with the overturning of that decision the Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Uday Chopra starrer Dhoom 3 was the first Bollywood film to officially release across the border.

Dhoom 3 creates mass excitement in Pakistan Pics1

Though Bollywood films in Pakistan have always drawn the audience to theatres in droves, the scene was quite amusing in Multan, Pakistan. Not surprisingly people flocked to the theatre crowding at the booking window to be among the first to watch the film.

However, it wasn’t just one locality that was on edge for the film. Unbelievable Cine Star in Lahore that features a late night show (3 AM) and early morning (8 AM) have reported houseful sales for the weekend. While Atrium in Karachi has recorded the highest ever advance booking [44 lacs] for first two days, with shows starting as early as 2.45 am.

By the looks of it, the Dhoom 3 hurricane has hit the Indian subcontinent hard.

'Dhoom 3' Opening Day Collection

YRF’s ‘Dhoom 3’ opened with a bang in India and overseas. The film had a great advance booking which is much higher compared to ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Chennai Express’. The film showed occupancy of 95 to 100% in the morning show. The film also opened remarkably overseas. The film was released in more than 4500 screens in India which is first time ever and 700 in international markets.

'Dhoom 3' Opening Day Collection

Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra starrer, ‘Dhoom 3’ is expected to make 40 crore plus business at the box-office in the opening day summing the numbers of Tamil, Telugu and Hindi version and will cross 100 crores in three days. Speculation is high that the film has made 45 crore in the opening day by totaling the domestic and international box-office numbers.

Since it is release around Christmas and New Year, it has an advantage and moreover the film also had no pressure of last week release as all the past releases are washed out of cinema halls. Since the film had a working day release, on Friday the opening collection would be bit low but it will grow up in weekends. It is the first film releasing in Pakistan after lifting the ban of Indian film release in the country. In this case also the film has an advantage.

Gautam Dutta, COO of PVR Cinemas, said, “The movie has opened exceedingly well. Going by the response for the first day, it doesn’t feel like it’s a working Friday. The first day shows witnessed high occupancies… on an average of 90 per cent.”

He said that for the first time, a movie has seen huge advance booking. “We believe the movie will have a repeat value and would have a good run for the next three-four weeks.”

Dubbed in Tamil and Telugu, the movie is available in 2 D and IMAX format.

Added Ashish Saksena, COO of Big Cinemas, “It has seen a massive opening and we are expecting this to be one of the biggest weekends. It looks like franchise movies are now establishing themselves as the audience knows what to expect.”

Trade analyst Komal Mehta informed that ‘’Dhoom 3’ had an extraordinary opening at the box-office without citing the numbers.

‘Chennai Express’ made an opening day collection of 33 crores and trade analyst feels ‘Dhoom 3’ will beat all the opening day records of all the past releases and set a historic record.

Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, ‘Dhoom 3’ the third installment of the successful franchise is the last big release of the year.

Tomorrow is the day of Dhoom 3

The wait seems to be over as Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 release date is tomorrow. 1st week will be crucial for box office collection success of the film that cost more than Rs 100 crore.

Tomorrow is the day of Dhoom 3

Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 release date has finally arrived. The film is releasing tomorrow and there is an unprecedented enthusiasm in the industry for the movie.

To be true the wait has been continuing for months and months. The film has been the most awaited in the industry this year and is the last major release of the year. And to be true the next ten days will decide as to how the film of the best Khan of the industry will do at the box office.

A Rs 200 crore box office collection in the first week will ensure that it goes on to collect as much as Rs 150 crore in the second week and breaks all the records in records book for the box office collection. Shah Rukh Khan’s last film Chennai Express that became the highest grossing film ever before being eclipsed by Krrish 3, did so well because it did extremely well in the first few days of the launch. Its first week’s collection was more than Rs 150 crore. It was the reason that the film became a mega hit. The same was true for Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish 3.

Aamir khan in Dhoom 3

Even before the launch of the film there is a near unanimity for its huge success. Industry insiders and analysts are claiming that the film will be the biggest hit of the Indian film industry and will break records of Krrish 3 of Hirithik Roshan and Rakesh Roshan and Chennai Express of Shah Rukh Khan. Almost everyone is talking of the Rs 300 crore target and many believe that the sort of media traction it is getting there is no doubt that it will go much beyond Rs 300 crore. “There is a possibility of the film crossing the Rs.300 crore mark. But we will have to wait and watch”. The film has been produced by the Yash Raj Films banner and it has been directed by none other than Vijay Krishna Acharya.

The Mr perfectionist of the Hindi film industry is satisfied with the development of the film. Aamir Khan seems to be very excited about the film and says that he loved the script immensely and so became a part of it. While talking about his role in the film he says, “I am a circus artist but our kind of circus is very different. Normally we associate Indian circus with animals like hathi (elephant) and sher (lion) and in case of artists, its trapeze artists or contortionists (women who bend their body). But that is old traditional circus; the modern circus is different…If I am doing trapeze or any other stunt, I will do it staying into that character. I don’t know if people are going to understand that. But we have gone with the modern day clown. He is a character who may not make you laugh but he is someone who will entertain you”. Aamir is once again going to eclipse all his competitors.

High Expectations from Aamir-Katrina starrer Dhoom 3

Stylized action sequences, complicated stunts and a starry cast - expectations from Aamir Khan-starrer action thriller "Dhoom 3 are sky high.

Stylized action sequences, complicated stunts and a starry cast - expectations from Aamir Khan-starrer action thriller "Dhoom 3 are sky high.

Stylized action sequences, complicated stunts and a starry cast - expectations from Aamir Khan-starrer action thriller "Dhoom 3", releasing on Friday, are sky high.

With two highly successful prequels, it is no wonder that the expectations from the movie, produced under the Yash Raj Films banner and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, are high.

Also starring Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif, the movie's music and trailers have already proven to be an appetiser for the audiences.

Touted as one of the biggest releases this year, it comes with an expectation of towering over the box office collections of past releases of 2013. Made on an extravagant budget of approximately Rs.100 crore, the film will be releasing in about 4,000 screens in India.

"There is a possibility of the film crossing the Rs.300 crore mark. But we will have to wait and watch," said Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines.

In the film, Abhishek and Uday will be seen reprising their roles of Jai Dixit and Ali from the last two "Dhoom" movies, while Aamir steps in to play a negative role as a gymnast.

Aamir essays Sahir - The Clown Thief, and Katrina plays Aaliya - The Acrobat Diva.

The film's promotions have been low key as "less is more" for the movie, Aamir had said earlier.

Promoting films on television shows seems to have become a trend, but "Dhoom 3" comes as an exception. The cast has not been seen on many TV shows promoting the film although superstar Salman Khan was seen talking about the film on his show "Bigg Boss-Saath 7".

"We believe that less is more for this film and even curiosity will be there," said Aamir, whose innovative promotions and marketing of his own productions, are always a hit.

In fact, to maintain the novelty of the film, the makers decided against having any sort of preview show including one which is usually organised for the cast and crew of the film.

For "Dhoom 3", the makers have, however, gone all out as far as launching an extensive range of merchandise is concerned.

From mobile phones and Barbie dolls to fashion accessories and notebooks - there are over 200 varieties of products and 20 partners with a combined penetration at more than 20,000 retail touch points. The price ranges from Rs 69 to Rs 9,000.

"Dhoom 3" will be Bollywood's first movie to be released in the IMAX format, a specialised film format.

Starting its journey with the first in the "Dhoom" series in 2003, the franchise has had an increasing number of fans with each film. The first movie starred John Abraham as the villain, while the second installment "Dhoom 2", which came out in 2006, was also a blockbuster. It featured Hrithik Roshan as the bad man.

Aamir's new avatar is something to be watched out for!

Dhoom 3 Movie Story Leaked

The story of Aamir-Katrina starrer has been leaked. Read on to find out…

Dhoom 3 Movie Story Leaked by website

Dhoom:3 has been creating a lot of buzz and everyone has been waiting with bated breath for the film which stars Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra to release. A lot of rumours are doing the rounds that the ticket prices of Dhoom:3 have been raised to Rs 500. Despite this, some of you would still want to catch the film, while there will be some who would think that Rs 500 is a little too much for Dhoom:3.

So this is the story for the people who belong to the latter group. Fair warning. Peeps who wish to watch Dhoom:3 in the theatres don’t read ahead. If you still wish to, then don’t blame us.

The story of Dhoom:3 has apparently been leaked. Yes, you heard it right! An entertainment website has revealed the plot of the film, which goes something like this – the film begins with Sahir assisting his father, played by Jackie Shroff. Sahir learns all the tricks from his father. The father (Jackie Shroff) is murdered, or either killed, due to somebody or some incident at the circus. Sahir promises to take revenge. Same old stuff, isn’t it? The film then takes a leap. The adult Sahir is played by Aamir Khan. He is working in the same circus his father used to work, and has beautiful gymnast Aaliya (Katrina Kaif) for company. Sahir is out to rob all the money that’s made by the owners of the circus, who according to him are possibly involved in his father’s death or murder. He is successful in two attempts. Now, enters ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan), along with Ali (Uday Chopra). Their task is to nab the master robber!

They know the master robber is Sahir, but do not have any proof. Thus, a trap is laid out to catch him red handed. Now, begins the cat and mouse game. The prime target is to catch Sahir in action. Will Sahir be caught in the end (like John Abraham in Dhoom), or would be given a chance to start a new life (like Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2); what would happen in end? That’s for you to find out when the film releases.

Well that’s a good thing that the website has not revealed the entire plot. So if you wish to find out that what happens in the end, go to the theatres.

Dhoom: 3 Music Review

Dhoom: 3 music review: Misses the bulls eye by miles :

Dhoom 3 music review

Rating: 2 out of 5

Music: Pritam

Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

Singers: Siddharth Mahadevan, Shilpa Rao, Sunidhi Chauhan, Mohit Chauhan, Aditi Singh Sharma, Shivam Mahadevan, Anish Sharma, Julius Packiam, Naya, Pritam

Packed with stars like Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, Dhoom:3 has undoubtedly become one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Slated to hit the theaters on December 20, the movie has already exalted expectations of the audience, all thanks to the blockbuster effect of the past two installments. The series is famous for the fast paced bikes and the adrenaline rush they bring along, but without engaging music all of that seems insipid. Pritam, who has been composing the music for the series since the beginning, was expected to take it all, a notch further up this time. But has the music really stood up to our expectations?

• Malang starts with an Arabic classic musical milieu and is healthily supported by apt lyrics, still there is something amiss. A Sufi song, with contemporary beats which has been planned in an extremely desi way – doesn’t sound quite right. Although the music is good, the song somehow doesn’t create that magic in your ears. The only good part of the song is where the Ragas come in the background as chorus and Shilpa Rao’s strong voice quality overshadows Siddharth Mahadevan’s singing attempts in the song. Overall, a very average song.

• Kamli is Katrina Kaif’s version of Aishwarya Rai’s Crazy Kiya Re. The track has some very up-to-date beats in the initial notes of the song, but fails to maintain the excitement throughout the catchy tune. Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice is always a delight to hear, and with Katrina’s dance moves grabbing everyone by the eye balls, this track would surely rock the charts. Having said all that – the song is just a regular Bollywood song that is released few years late in time. It feels outdated, but is still good to hear.

• Tu Hi Junoon is a typical montage song and seems to be hanging by a loose thread in the album. A much disengaged track, the lyrics are not very peppy and it is just the melodious voice of Mohit Chauhan that comes across as a relief. Much like Malang, the lyrics and vocals individually, are spectacular, but as a package, they miserably fail at creating any magic. It can be touted, as perhaps, the weakest song in the album – a plain, passable average song, which might work for you, once you watch the video.

• Dhoom Machale Dhoom comes at a point where the listener seems to have lost all hopes from the album, but is taken for a pleasant surprise. Sung by newbie Aditi Singh Sharma, this track is remixed version of the previous Dhoom machale tracks. Western instruments add a lot of fast based rap into this track, but it’s the dhol that puts you off. The song provides nothing new with respect to the tune, has become the anthem for this franchise. The track is fine, does justice to the lyrics, is a listener’s delight as compared to other tracks, and comes out as a classic Dhoom Machale Dhoom’s revamped version.

• Bande Hain Hum Uske is an impactful chorus sung by kids—Shivam Mahadevan and Anish Sharma. It has some heavy duty chords and depicts the pain in the film. The best in the album, it has been well drafted, and is a perfect score for an optimistic prayer song. Bande hain hum uske is not the kind of song which you will listen to every day, but will certainly listen to, when you seek motivation. A pleasant take back from this album.

• Dhoom Tap is well-arranged and satisfactorily held up by the background Dhoom score. The track is an all feet talking instrumental song which blends well with the other tracks.

• Dhoom 3 Overture is really nice to hear, if you are into instrumentals. It is an instrumental version of Bande hain hum uske, and the track begins and slowly ascends onto you and nicely depicts a pleasant musical accordion just as soon as it picks up. This is another must hear from the album with all of its well-arranged shifts and patterns.

• Dhoom Machale Dhoom Arabic Version does not make much sense as it is more of a promotional song. The album could have ended without this track as far as melodic overtures are concerned. The song is, although, unique and has been sung by Naya, seems like a take on Tata Young’s version in Dhoom.

Verdict: Largely, Dhoom:3 is once again a hardcore commercial album, as has been the case with it’s preceding versions. This album doesn’t have tracks that will straight away appeal to you, and much like Krrish 3, the music of Dhoom:3 tastes more like 2004, than 2014. The music surely does not spell doom! Go ahead, and check it out for yourself.

Aamir is the finest actor the country has : Shahrukh Khan

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan feels Aamir Khan is the finest actor and an inspiration for the kind of work he has done in 'Dhoom 3'.

"He is the finest actor the country has. For his role (in 'Dhoom 3') he required that kind of body. He does some trapeze work in the film... for him to work out that way (to have a perfect body) it is fantastic and inspiring," Shah Rukh said at an event last evening.

"Aamir leads the way and is always an inspiration like this not only physically and mentally but with the kind of job and work he does. I really appreciate it," he said.

Aamir is the finest actor the country has : Shahrukh Khan

In 'Dhoom 3', Aamir plays the role of a baddie. Shah Rukh is also ready to play a negative role again on screen. He had played negative roles in the beginning of his career in films like 'Darr', 'Baazigar' and 'Anjaam'.

"It is long time I haven't played such a role, I will like to do it. If I am offered (anti-hero role) I will do it though it may not be commercially very befitting... it may not get into club of Rs 100 crore or Rs 200 crore. Like I do 'Don' series, but it is stylised and is hardly negative," Shah Rukh added.

Dhoom:3 - Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif turn acrobats! Watch video!

Exclusive behind the scenes footage from Dhoom:3 - Aamir Khan & Katrina Kaif learn some cool acrobatic moves for the song 'Malang'.

Malang from Dhoom:3 is the most expensive and exotic song as per the makers, but here’s what makes this song worth a watch

Katrina Kaif and Aamir Khan look like poetry in motion in the brand new song teaser from Dhoom:3; a look at the few seconds of the Malang song showcases the grandeur of this song and why not, after all, the makers spent almost Rs 5 crore on this song. However it makes us wonder if it was the glossy sets and post production that cost the film’s producers a bomb or the rigorous training sessions that this film’s stars had undertaken to rehearse for this high action acrobatic number.  Katrina and Aamir are seen undertaking some tough gymnastics lessons and we must say that Katrina looked really comfortable in her acts. The Chikni Chameli adapted easily to the postures heights and stunts as compared to our Mr Perfectionist Khan.

A little birdie also told us how Aamir Khan had to take medication after performing some real tough and trying stunts up in the air. We must say all the hard work did pay off at the end of the day for this duo, for the song’s aerial acts have not gone unnoticed. And the duo is looking absolutely gorgeous while performing these acts.

Check out the look at Katrina Kaif and Aamir Khan‘s hard work…

Makers of Dhoom:3 may hike the ticket prices of their much-awaited action thriller?

Dhoom 3 Most awaited Bollywod movie poster

Going by the latest khabar, it seems that Ticket prices of Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Dhoom:3 to be hiked

Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Dhoom:3 which will hit the screens on December 20  seems to be feeling the heat as most films have been easily minting big moolah at the box office recently. First Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express broke all the records and then Hrithik Roshan’s superhero film Krrish 3 took over in no time. With Dhoom:3 being the next big film, the makers want to make sure they don’t lag behind in the number game. Hence to make sure Aamir-Katrina’s film further raises the bar of the box office collection, we hear the makers of the film and distributors are considering hiking the ticket prices.

If reports are to believed then Dhoom:3 ticket may cost the audience Rs 500 at multiplexes. That’s not all! Since YRF’s Dhoom:3 is the first Hindi film to be released in the much talked about IMAX format, the ticket prices for the same are expected to be more expensive.

“As of now there has been no decision taken in terms of hiking the ticket prices for ‘Dhoom:3‘, however there are chances that the rates may be hiked for the release that coincides with the holiday season of Christmas,” a source from leading multiplex chain said.

While we agree that the audience has been waiting eagerly for Aamir and Kat’s film but with ticket prices as high as Rs 500, we are sure this will dig a bigger hole into the audiences pocket. There is a possibility the plan may backfire, right Bollywoodlifers?

Aamir Khan Almost Went Blond For Dhoom 3

Photo: When Aamir Khan Almost Went Blond For Dhoom 3

We are sure you have all seen Aamir Khan’s look in the upcoming movie Dhoom 3. He is sporting a hat for quite a lot of scenes and glimpses we have seen so far. What most of you don’t know is that the actor had almost finalised a blond look for the movie. We stumbled upon a few pictures where Aamir had gone changed the colour of his hair from black to blonde.

We are aware that Aamir went on a rigorous workout schedule to get perfectly toned abs to make his character come alive in Dhoom 3. He plays the role of Samir, a clown thief. Aamir, who is known to be a perfectionist, did not want to stop there. He made sure that he wanted to get his hairstyle right for this movie.

He tried out different things and was almost about to finalise the blond hair but finally decided against it. We can see that the 47-year-old has experimented with a number of hairstyles in his previous films. He tries to give a unique look to his characters in each of his movies so that he looks different in each movie. In Ghajini he had taken on the bald look, then in Taare Zameen Par he got himself a mohok look. He has tried many more in other films.

Famous hair stylist named Avan Contractor was hired to finalise Aamir Khan's hairstyle for Dhoom 3. They tried on blond and brunette but decided against it as his natural black hair suited him the best. They just added the hat to it.

'Dhoom 3' trailer gets 12 million hits so far

Our pick of the trailer this month is Vijay Krishna Acharya's 'Dhoom 3'. Popularly known as Victor, he has earlier directed Tashan. What makes this trailer special was that unlike the past two 'Dhoom' films, which were all glossy but stayed away from the emotion and the drama, the third film in the franchise surprised us with Aamir Khan, the young kid and Jackie Shroff bringing in the unexpected emotion, while retaining the glamour quotient. Excerpts from our conversation with the filmmaker on why he believes the trailer works:

"Dhoom is a franchise that has a certain expectation from it. The trailer managed to show the audience that we were different this time even though we remained in the larger Dhoom world. When we made the original Dhoom, we wanted to make a film that would not bore us and wanted it to be just a breezy cool film. The fact that we chose to stay away from romance, drama and emotion, which was unconventional in the format of Hindi cinema, worked for it. Moving ahead, we needed to carve out a new path. What has worked this time is the fact that the trailer defied expectation and delivered something that you did not expect. There was Aamir, the kid and Jackie that you did not expect in the world of Dhoom. You expect Dhoom to be glossy, but don't expect drama from it. The best compliment I got was a from a group of ushers at the trailer launch who, after getting their pictures clicked with Aamir, said to me, 'Sir, phaadu hai!'"
