Moving on from Sheila and Munni, the year 2013 was high on Gandi Baat, Dhating Naach and One Two Three Four. The Bollywood staple -- item songs -- ruled the charts this year as well.

Made just for the masses, the item songs were effectively used in the promotions of the films. Take for instance, the movie Shootout At Wadala. It dealt with guns and gangsters, but its promotional strategy revolved around two songs, Laila by Sunny Leone and Babli Badmash by Priyanka Chopra. These two item tracks may not have helped the movie become a blockbuster, but individually they fared better than the movie itself. Sunny as Laila was much adored.

The dancing diva Madhuri Dixit also joined the bandwagon with her elegant performance in Ghagra from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. But the most hit item songs arrived only in the latter half of the year.

Nargis Fakhri’s Dhating Naach and Charmme Kaur’s Gandi Baat caught the fancy of the listeners with their peppy lyrics and zippy tune. 

Sunny Leone in ‘Laila’

The adult movie star Sunny Leone was roped in do the item song Laila in Shootout At Wadala. The song was peppy, thanks to its infectious tune, but Sunny and her skimpy choli were the USP of the song. Alas! besides some simple moves and suggestive hip swaying, she hardly danced! The uncensored version of the song was much liked.

Madhuri Dixit in ‘Ghagra’

Madhuri Dixit couldn’t resist the lure of dancing to Ghagra and agreed to the item song in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The song had dance steps by Farah Khan, and was picturised on both Madhuri Dixit and the movie’s lead Ranbir Kapoor. The song was a sure hit and turned out to be a rage at various award functions and shows.

Priyamani in ‘One two three four’

South belle Priyamani showed her latka-jhatka with the superstar Shahrukh Khan in the famous track One two three four from Chennai Express. Choreographed by Prabhu Deva's brother Raju Sundaram, the song was clean and fun to watch.

Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Party All Night’

Sonakshi Sinha partied all night with Akshay Kumar and Honey Singh in the hit track Party All Night from Boss. The song which was high on Punjabi feel and EDM struck the right chord with the audiences, and is one of the best party numbers from this year. 

Deepika Padukone in ‘Dilliwalli Girlfriend’

Even though it was a sangeet song, the makers of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani promoted Dilliwalli Girlfriend as a dance number. Deepika Padukone’s sensuous red avatar and Ranbir Kapoor’s impish charm made the track a visually appealing number.

Nargis Fakhri in ‘Dhating Naach’

What’s Dhating Naach? Ask Nargis Fakhri, who looked as cute as hot in her item song from the film Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. Together with Shahid Kapoor she brought the house down with her sassy dance moves, choreographed by Bosco-Caesar.

Jacqueline Fernandez in ‘Jadoo ki jhappi’

Jacqueline Fernandez turned a village belle for Jadoo ki jhappi from the film Ramaiya Vastavaiya. The song was choreographed by Prabhu Deva and carried a distinctive mark of his typical style, but the song couldn’t create ripples for its music. Nevertheless, Jacqueline danced brilliantly in the track.

Priyanka Chopra in ‘Ram Chahe Leela’

Priyanka Chopra can easily be tagged as the item girl of the year. Why? She did as many as three item songs this year. While her Babli Badmash from Shootout at Wadala, and Pinky in Zanjeer came a cropper, she looked sensational and danced incredibly well in the most talked about item song Ram Chahe Leela from Ram-Leela.

Mahie Gill in 'Don't touch my body'

The talented actress Mahi Gill turned an item girl for the film Bullett Raja, and showed her jalwa, seducing Saif Ali Khan in the item song Don't touch my body. Were you impressed?

Charmme Kaur in ‘Gandi Baat’

Though the highlight of hit track Gandi baat was Shahid Kapoor and his thunder moves, the actress who matched her dance steps with him was Charmme Kaur. The Southern hottie pipped many other actresses to be in this song choreographed by one and only Prabhu Deva. Sonakshi Sinha was also a part of the track.

Big Boss Contestant Armaan Kohli arrested by Police

The actor was arrested on Monday from the sets of Bigg Boss 7 following a complaint filed by British singer-actor Sofia Hayat for allegedly assaulting her during their stay in the reality show, a police official said

“Armaan Kohli is in the police station and the investigation is going on. He was taken under custody at around 11 pm (Monday). The investigation is on and things will be clear after that ,” said an official from the Lonavala police station. A source from channel Colors, which airs the popular show, too confirmed that Armaan was arrested on Monday night.

Sofia filed her complaint at the Santacruz police station on December 11, just days after her eviction from the TV show. During her stay on the show, an argument had broken out between Armaan and her. He hit Sofia with a mop which left her bruised.

Armaan, who has worked in films like Virodhi, Aulad Ke Dushman and Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, has been in the spotlight on Bigg Boss 7 several times due to his temper.

The show, hosted by Bollywood star Salman Khan, features celebrities from different walks of life who are made to live together in a secluded house with over 80 well-placed cameras which pry on their activities 24X7.

High Expectations from Aamir-Katrina starrer Dhoom 3

Stylized action sequences, complicated stunts and a starry cast - expectations from Aamir Khan-starrer action thriller "Dhoom 3", releasing on Friday, are sky high.

With two highly successful prequels, it is no wonder that the expectations from the movie, produced under the Yash Raj Films banner and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, are high.

Also starring Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif, the movie's music and trailers have already proven to be an appetiser for the audiences.

Touted as one of the biggest releases this year, it comes with an expectation of towering over the box office collections of past releases of 2013. Made on an extravagant budget of approximately Rs.100 crore, the film will be releasing in about 4,000 screens in India.

"There is a possibility of the film crossing the Rs.300 crore mark. But we will have to wait and watch," said Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines.

In the film, Abhishek and Uday will be seen reprising their roles of Jai Dixit and Ali from the last two "Dhoom" movies, while Aamir steps in to play a negative role as a gymnast.

Aamir essays Sahir - The Clown Thief, and Katrina plays Aaliya - The Acrobat Diva.

The film's promotions have been low key as "less is more" for the movie, Aamir had said earlier.

Promoting films on television shows seems to have become a trend, but "Dhoom 3" comes as an exception. The cast has not been seen on many TV shows promoting the film although superstar Salman Khan was seen talking about the film on his show "Bigg Boss-Saath 7".

"We believe that less is more for this film and even curiosity will be there," said Aamir, whose innovative promotions and marketing of his own productions, are always a hit.

In fact, to maintain the novelty of the film, the makers decided against having any sort of preview show including one which is usually organised for the cast and crew of the film.

For "Dhoom 3", the makers have, however, gone all out as far as launching an extensive range of merchandise is concerned.

From mobile phones and Barbie dolls to fashion accessories and notebooks - there are over 200 varieties of products and 20 partners with a combined penetration at more than 20,000 retail touch points. The price ranges from Rs 69 to Rs 9,000.

"Dhoom 3" will be Bollywood's first movie to be released in the IMAX format, a specialised film format.

Starting its journey with the first in the "Dhoom" series in 2003, the franchise has had an increasing number of fans with each film. The first movie starred John Abraham as the villain, while the second installment "Dhoom 2", which came out in 2006, was also a blockbuster. It featured Hrithik Roshan as the bad man.

'Responsible' side of John Abraham

Fans recently got to see the 'responsible' side of John Abraham - Bollywood's poster boy for fitness.' The actor-producer chose to not take the stage at the Tour De India event that took place at the suburbs, given the insufficient measures towards the participants safety and the city's traffic management. 

Says a source,"Though John Abraham does take his title of being Tour De India cylathon's ambassador seriously,he decided to not take to the stage given that there was no staff or security posted during the children's cycle event from BKC to the Bandra-Worli sealink as well as the fact that adequate traffic measures were not taken to divert vehicles to alternate roads and hence chose to instead look into the logistics. Being a responsible ambassador, safety of the participants came first to him".

Power player John Abraham is synonymous with fitness and health in the country and was announced ambassador to the initiative this year, given his constant endeavor to make India a fitter country.

Bollywood film-makers are hiring fresh faces for their movies. But not everyone of them will impress the audience. The movie was an adaptation of of Shakespeare’s classic love story ‘Romeo and Juliet’. She really played ‘Juliet’ well.

4) Ram-Charan-Teja 

Ram Charan Teja might be a debutant in Bollywood but when it’s about Tollywood, he is pretty famous. This South Indian actor will replace Amitabh Bachchan in the remake of ‘Zanjeer’.

5) Poonam Pandey

The controversy queen, Poonam Pandey made her debut in Bollywood with the movie, ‘Nasha’. This model turned actress is well known for her boldness and for her comfort level to go bare. She came into controversy for her bold statement to go nude on Indian streets.

6) Raashi-Khanna

‘Madras Cafe’ opened the gates for this actress to enter Bollywood. Raashi Khanna played John Abraham’s wife in the movie and is likely to be featured opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in the upcoming movie ‘Hamara Bajaj’.

7) Dhanush

The ‘Kolaveri Di’ singer and Tamil actor Dhanush made his debut in Bollywood with the movie Raanjhanaa. This actor came to the limelight for the sensational hit, Kolaveri Di. His movie Raanjhanaa earned 20.08 crores on its opening weekend. The movie is worth watching only because of the acting by Dhanush.

8) Gaelyn Mendonca

Rohan Sippy’s ‘Nautanki Saala’ paved the way for Gaelyn Mendonca to enter Bollywood. She played the role of Chitra in the movie. However, she recieved average feedbacks from the viewers.

9) Girish Taurani

Girish Taurani made his debut with ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ where he acted as an NRI who falls for Shruti Hassan in the movie. The movie couldn’t do well at the box-office.

10) Mishti

Bengal beauty, Mishti didn’t make her debut yet. She will soon be seen in Subhash Ghai’s upcoming movie ‘Kaanchi’. Let’s see if she will satisfy our viewers.

11) Pallavi Sharda

Pallavi Sharda will be seen with Ranbir Kapoor in their upcoming movie ‘Besharam’. Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, this movie has already caught the eyes of the viewers with its trailers and songs.

12) Pooja Salvi

You must have seen her in ads on TV. Pooja Salvi acted in several commercials and finally landed up in Bollywood with her debut movie ‘Nautanki Saala’. She potrayed the role of Ayushmann Khurrana’s love interest in the movie.

13) Sasha Agha

This actress made her debut with Yash Raj’s ‘Aurangzeb’ where she potrayed the role of a carefree bold girl. Sasha Agha did a couple of steamy scenes with Arjun Kapoor in the movie.

14) Amit Sadh

Kai Po Che is the debut movie for TV star Amit Sadh. He played a powerful character as a politician in the movie. The movie also starred Sushant Singh Rajput.

‘R… Rajkumar’ dominated the second Week

New releases were duds from day one itself, while ‘R… Rajkumar’ was steady in its second weekend as well.

Sunny Leone starrer ‘Jackpot’ was never expected to have a flying start at the box-office, but there were expectations that Sunny’s name attached with the film will help it to get a decent collection. But the negative reviews made the audience stay away from it. On Friday the film collected Rs. 1.15cr, on Saturday the collection was Rs. 1.10cr and on Sunday the film collected Rs. 1.20cr, taking the first weekend total to Rs. 3.45cr. The collection is disappointing looking at the promotions and the number of screens the film was released.

While Dimple Kapadia starrer ‘What The Fish’ was totally washed out, the film has collected Rs. 40 lakhs on first weekend.

On the other hand Shahid Kapoor surely has a reason to party, his film ‘R… Rajkumar’ dominated the new releases over the weekend. After collecting Rs. 47.10cr in week one, the film had a good run over its second weekend. In the second weekend the film has collected Rs. 10.80cr, taking the overall total to Rs. 57.90cr till date.

Why did Aamir Khan want to Go away from Salman Khan?

Mr Perfectionist made his charming presence felt last night on the popular chat show Koffee With Karan and spilled the beans on many aspects of his professional and personal space. But the one that got us hooked was Aamir’s equation with the superstar Dabangg dude

As Aamir Khan turned up on Koffee with Karan last night with a charming grin on his tiny face, his relaxed body language clearly suggested that the man was in the mood for a frank conversation. The first segment of the show started on an interesting note when the chatty host Karan Johar quizzed Aamir on his equation with Salman Khan.

Salman, of course, is good friends with Aamir now, but the two did not quite hit it off from the word go.“ In Andaz Apna Apna I had a very bad experience working with Salman Khan. I didn’t like him then. I found him rude and inconsiderate. After tasting the experience of working with him I just wanted to stay away from Salman, ” confessed Aamir.

So how did the things between the two change over the years and when did the two start bonding big time? “Salman walked into my life when I was at my lowest. I had gone through a divorce with my wife. But later we bumped into each other and he expressed his wish to meet me. We met again and drunk together and we connected. And it began as a genuine friendship and it has only grown,” said Aamir.

Today both Aamir and Salman continue to rule the roost with their unquestionable star powers, but Aamir still believes that bhai is the ultimate king of the business as he has the true star power to draw the audience by shaking his..err belts, collars and goggles!
